Last night, this (uncredited) photo of two insects appeared in my newsfeed. The sender said the picture was from National Geographic, but I could not confirm.
The six legs on each indicated that they could be mantises, so I did a little research on the Tree of Life website.
“The Tree of Life Web Project (ToL) is a collaborative effort of biologists and nature enthusiasts from around the world. On more than 10,000 World Wide Web pages, the project provides information about biodiversity, the characteristics of different groups of organisms, and their evolutionary history.”
I came up with the following tree:
While I could not identify them, I did imagined the conversation between them as they smiled and took their practiced bow.
“Marvelous, Marta!” said Marci (on the right).
“Magnificent, Marci!” said Marta (on the left).
Mantises can be very alliterative.
